In January of 2005, the House of Representatives had a bill on their desk which is known as the Real ID Act. This set the house in an uproar because the government wanted to take more privacy away from common people. This had everyone upset at the government. If you want to give more power to the government to look over what you are doing and that power to stop in any time to see how and what you are doing, then fine, but there are going to be a lot of other people that are going to want their privacy respected. The constitution gives us the right to privacy and as long as there are people to stand for these rights, they will have to at least listen.
The facts about this act are that the government was going to make everyone carry an ID card that can be tracked at any time. They would but a bio-metric chip in the card so that they could know what and where everyone is at. Some people say that it would be a great idea because this way they can keep track of people who are not citizens of the US. On the other hand, the citizens will think that they are being tracked like stray animals. Both sides have a good point to bring up in the House of Representatives.
They have revised the act now and are only giving these identification cards to everyone that is not a US citizen. This makes a lot of Americans happy because their privacy is not going to be invaded and the country is going to be more protected from terrorists. Everyone can now live life a little easier with this new ID card.
